Ayben, who first gained recognition in 1999 with the song " Yüzyüze " which she sang with Elif on Nefret's "Meclis-i Ala" album, later appeared on albums by Nefret, Narcotic, Ceza, Aylin Aslım, and Fuat. She has managed to prove that female MCs, who are very few in number in Turkish Rap, can also be successful. Selo, Civciv, Hamsta and Puma hosted us at the "Kadıköy Emergency Studio" in a warm and friendly atmosphere with Ayben. On behalf of the SND team, BaranG, ObiEfsa, and ahker discussed the recent "Diss incidents," "Questions the members are curious about," and "Our own..." We conducted an interview consisting of questions we had prepared. Member questions; Ahker : Who will be collaborating with on your new album? Ayben : Ceza and Sahiyan are confirmed. I'm thinking of doing something with Alaturka Mavzer, and I really want to do the Rapangels group too, but we've lost contact a bit lately. We'll get back together and finalize things, and there are a few more meetings to see what the outcome will be. Ahker : As a girl, did you face any backlash in the rap world? Ayben : No, I haven't seen it. Ahker : What qualities are needed to collaborate with Ayben? Ayben : I wouldn't think, "Let him be bad so I can crush him." He needs to be high-quality, someone who can give something to people, who does his job well, and who values others. Ahker : How much higher do you prioritize the people you value over other people? Ayben : I appreciate it, what more can I do? :)) Ahker: Are you considering an all-female rap group? Ayben : No, I want to continue solo, but I would definitely like to collaborate with female rappers. Ahker: Ceza and Fuat are on bad terms. What about you? Ayben : I can't say my relationship with him is very good either; after all, he's going his own way now, and we're going ours. Ahker: What are your thoughts on Ogeday? Ayben : I've never even met Ogeday. Someone started a rumor about me on the internet, and I'm going to confront the person who started it. I dissed that person, after all, I have nothing to do with Ogeda. Ahker : Aylin, are you going to do another duet in the style of Aslım? Ayben : Yes, I made another one, but let's not announce it now. It would be better if they announced it first. Let them reveal it first. (After the interview, a statement was released: She collaborated with Nil Karaibrahimgil on a duet.) Ahker : How significant was his brother's role in him reaching this point? Ayben : Of course, it's huge. I've never denied that. But I've never acted like, "I'm Ceza's sister, so love me." Thanks to him, I've performed at many big festivals, participated in many events, and worked very hard to be the best. I put in a lot of effort to impress my brother. He's the most valuable thing in my life. I can never deny his contribution to me. Some people think wrongly, for example, I come across comments like, "If it weren't for Ceza, she wouldn't have gotten this far," but Ceza has been around for years, and I still haven't released an album, for example. Ultimately, he's still actively involved in rap, and I know how busy he is. Ahker : What inspires you when writing lyrics? Ayben : I play a beat and write whatever I feel. I don't have a specific source of inspiration. Ahker : Why did you diss Cholera without even seeing him? Ayben : Let's not let anyone meddle in our problems anymore. Ahker : Where did you first hear Turkish rap? Ayben : I first heard that rap could be made in Turkish from Ceza. Ahker : Are there people you look up to? Ayben : First of all, I have my brother. I like Missy Elliot. And now it's our turn to ask questions :)) Ahker : We first got to know you through your collaboration with Nefret on his album "Meclis-i Ala". Were you rapping before that? Ayben : I first heard rap music from my older brother at a very young age, and then when I saw from Ceza that it could be done in Turkish, I slowly started writing rap songs. Then, while we were working in the studio for Nefret's first album, my brother said, "Come on, you try it too," and that's where my first professional work came about. Ahker : What does rap mean to you? Ayben : It's one of the indispensable things in my life, even at the very top of the list. It's my lifestyle. Ahker : Do you see any improvement between your first rap songs and your current rap songs? Ayben : Of course. After the "Hate" albums, I started recording on my own at home. I was constantly writing rap. Then, due to my mother's illness, I had to take a break for a while. But even during that period, rap was what I clung to. Ahker : In the song "Wedding Dress Drunkenness" that you made with Aylin Aslım, you were more liked than most other performers. How did you achieve that? Ayben : I was so happy when the offer came. I accepted it without hesitation because Aylin also makes alternative music. Besides, she's a wonderful person, like an older sister to me. When we were making the song, she told me about the theme, and it was exactly the kind of topic I wanted to talk about. Even though a music video wasn't made for the album, it became one of the most popular songs, and I'm very proud of that. Ahker : What advice would you give to female MCs who want to rap or have already started on this path? Ayben : Girls, first and foremost, should be brave and not listen to anything because they'll say all sorts of things to discourage them. They should believe in themselves, trust themselves, embrace and love what they do. They should constantly write rap. They'll see that their new lyrics are much, much better than their previous ones. For example, my album includes lyrics I wrote a long time ago. Ahker : Has the name of the new album been decided? Can you tell us a little bit about the album? Ayben : The album title isn't decided yet. Roka did almost all the beats. Funky C also has instrumentals, and I want to do a feature with him on the album, and he'll be doing the scratches. There are definitely features with Ceza and Sahtiyan, and we want to do something different with Alaturka Mavzer. We're recording at Digitolia studio with Ayhan Sayiner as producer. There will be a few international artists on the album, but I can't say who they are yet as it's not finalized. Ahker : You and Ceza have been rapping together in the same house for years. How has this affected your father? I mean, it must have been difficult for him. Ayben : My father gave us incredible support. Whenever he sees me idle, he'll say, "My daughter, write lyrics," or "Come on, read me some of your new lyrics." He gives me responsibilities as if it were homework. He comes and listens when we rap. Especially when my brother raps, it feels like a dream to us. Ahker : So, does the fact that your brother is a really good rapper motivate you, or does it negatively affect you? Ayben : Being Ceza's sister puts a huge responsibility on me. After all, I also bear his name, and the most important thing is to make my brother approve of what I do. He wouldn't have allowed me to do it if he didn't approve anyway 🙂 Ahker : Will you be featured in the song that Ceza and Sezen Aksu are making? Ayben : No. But it will be a very special piece. Ahker : Recently, a diss track you made with Ceza Sahtiyan was released, and you immediately followed it with a statement. Could you give us a little more detail about this? Ayben : That track was recorded as a demo for my album. Then we resolved our issues and didn't feel the need to include it on the album; we removed it. I only sent it to one friend, and he put it in a publicly accessible folder. One day I came home and saw a forum on a website that said, "This diss track is unique = Ceza, Sahtiyan, and Ayben," and I decided to check it out. I didn't expect it to be there because I only gave it to one person, and I trusted them completely. I downloaded the track, and the moment it started playing, a fire leaped from my toes to my head, and just when things had calmed down, this track appeared. We informed everyone we could reach, and we didn't allow the track to be released. That night, I waited on forums more than I've ever been online in my life, and after the incident, I called Sagopa. Then I wrote an apology. But some people misinterpreted that apology. That statement came from me, not from Ceza or Sahtiyan. Furthermore, I haven't apologized for any diss tracks I've made, including the one in that particular song; I only apologized for the song being released online despite me being responsible for it. Ultimately, I made that song, and I stand behind all my songs. Besides, I spoke with Sagopa and we resolved the issue. Ahker : There's been a lot of activity in the Turkish rap scene lately, and many albums have been released. What do you think of these works? Ayben : I can't follow all of them, but Istanbul Attack, or Fuchs, is like an older brother to me; I have great respect for him, he's a very special person to me. And also, my favorite from their recent albums is Mode XL. Ahker : After Turkish rap groups and MCs started getting more media attention, some tabloid journalists reported that certain celebrities would also be taking up rap. What are your thoughts on this? Ayben : I don't think something like that would happen. They wouldn't affect anything. They'd just be ridiculous. Ahker : Will we be seeing Ayben in commercials soon? Ayben : Not for now. But if there are any offers, I'll consider them. Ahker : Is there a specific concept behind your album? Is there a central theme that the songs mainly focus on? Ayben : I wrote about the moments I experienced during the periods when I was alone with rap. There are things I complain about, things that bother me. I'm not a missionary, after all, I'm making music. Ahker : You'll be featuring Rapangels on the album. Would you consider working with other female MCs as well? Ayben : I worked with Rapangels because they're really good. I wish there were more good girl MCs so we could work together. They can send me all their demos. They can reach me at www.ayben.net or Hammer Music is more reliable. I listen to all the demos I receive. At this stage, I can only do duets with them, I can't provide any other support, but I can at least offer advice. Unfortunately, I don't have a place to provide them with recording opportunities, but I can give them whatever support I can. Ahker : Do you think you've done well enough for this album, or are you thinking of waiting a bit longer and doing better? Ayben : I think it's the perfect time. My next album will definitely be better than this one, I'm sure of it. It will get even better in time, but right now I need to somehow translate the experience I'm accumulating into rap. I've been in this business for 8 years, and it seems that being Ceza's sister doesn't automatically get me an album, as some people say. I have more stage and concert experience than many people who have released albums. Ahker : If you received a duet offer from a pop musician, would you accept? Ayben : My door is always open to artists who make quality music. I've received duet offers before, but I didn't accept them because I'm focusing on my own album and it's not the right time. Maybe it will happen again in the future. Ahker : How do you see the future of Turkish rap? Ayben : We can only get somewhere when we, as listeners within our own community, overcome the psychology of attacking the top performers. Before, everyone was saying, "One day everyone will listen to Turkish rap," but now there are music videos on Kral TV, rap commercials, and now they're jealous because they can't do it themselves. Everything has its time. Ahker : Which music company will release the album? Ayben : Hammer Music Ahker : The final word is yours, Ayben. Ayben : The album is coming very soon, and it will be a very good one. Another quality track will be added to your archives. They should stop talking amongst themselves and leave us alone. Let our problems stay between us. Listeners shouldn't be divided; they shouldn't comment on who is right and who is wrong. They should listen to the diss tracks and talk about the quality of the songs. Everyone is right in their own way anyway. Now they should stop these fights and divisions and enjoy it. Whether they like me or not is their problem, but they have to show respect because whether they like me or not, I'm here. We would like to extend our thanks to the "Alaturka Mavzer" group for opening their studios to us for this interview, to Ayben for dedicating her Sunday to this interview, and to Fatih, the admin of www.ceza-fan.com, for facilitating communication and coordination. :)) On behalf of the SND TEAM, we wish them continued success. This interview is reaching you two weeks late, and the reason for this is entirely due to personal reasons. We would also like to point out that the footage taken during the interview could not be included due to technical reasons. Therefore, we apologize to Ayben and all our members and extend our respects… SND TEAM
