We had a very enjoyable interview in Bakırköy, Istanbul, with Defkhan, one of the most prominent names in Turkish rap in recent times, who lives in Germany. Defkhan, who has already made a name for himself in the minds of listeners with his two underground albums, made a high-quality interview with his answers to our questions. Defkhan talked about his life, his past and future projects, and shared many details with you, the members of Suikast.De.
Enjoy reading.

We thank Defkhan for this interview.

BeX: Welcome to Istanbul, Defkhan. Can you tell us a little about yourself?

Defkhan: My name is Hakan Dursun. I was born in the Netherlands. I spent my childhood in Kayseri. I lived in Kayseri until I was 6 years old and then returned to Germany. I am 25 years old now. Our lives have gone awry 🙂

BeX: How did you first encounter hip hop?

Defkhan: Initially, my brother and I did breakdancing for about four and a half years, then somehow we switched to rap.

BeX: Are there any new studies or projects in the future?

Defkhan: We're making an album. With Fırtına. This time it will be a licensed project.

BeX: Can you tell us a little bit about the album you're preparing? Who will be featured on it?

Defkhan: The album title isn't even decided yet. Work has just begun. It's an 18-track album. The names of the featured artists haven't been finalized because it's such a new project. Since the album will be officially licensed, it's taking a long time. Hopefully, the album will be released towards the end of 2008.

BeX: Are you planning to shoot a music video after the album comes out?

Defkhan: Yes, we plan to shoot music videos for two songs.

BeX: Will you continue with the underground projects?

Defkhan: I'm thinking of releasing a Lost Tape towards the winter. It will consist of 59 tracks, all previously unreleased.

BeX: Def, can you tell us a little bit about the 59 Music collective?

Defkhan: 59 Music is our own record label. We'll release the album through them. Our team consists of 11 people.

BeX: Do you follow the work in the underground scene? Who are your favorite artists?

Defkhan: Of course I'm following them. Sansar, İtaat, and Hayki are quite successful names in my opinion, and I've worked with them before. There are names from Anatolia, but it's too early to say anything about them. There's Joaquin in Trabzon, he's a friend of mine, and I find him successful too. There are many names I find successful, but these are the ones that come to mind for now. On the other hand, Gekko and Bektaş are my favorite names.

BeX: You shared your underground albums, All Elementz and GGAS (Git Gel Amerika Altı Saat), with Turkish rap fans through Suikast.De. What kind of reactions did you receive after these albums?

Defkhan: The reactions have generally been positive. We get some negative feedback too, but that works to our advantage, of course. We don't get too much negative feedback, mostly positive criticism, and criticism is a blessing for us 🙂

I also want to tell my listeners that my newest works are always published first on Suikast.De . I suggest they pay attention to this.

BeX: Yes, the final word is yours, Def…

Defkhan: Let this not be the last word, we have much more to say 😉
