KAIROS : Hi Shame, can you tell me a little about yourself?

SHAME : I've painted the world with my spray paints in France, Czech Republic, Italy, Spain, England, USA (NY City), Bolivia, Peru, and Brazil. Besides that, I've participated in many national and international exhibitions. Traveling abroad is very important to me because it allows me to gain new knowledge from other cultures, and these cultures inspire me greatly. I'm currently working in various departments, and I do this because I want to be a versatile artist. I distinguish between the work I've undertaken and the graffiti I've done; graffiti should always remain superior.

KAIROS: Can you explain when you started graffiti and why you became a writer?

SHAME: I started graffiti in 1989. Initially, I did tagging, and I think around 1990 I started painting on large walls – very large walls, of course! I consider myself a graffiti missionary! This is how it will continue in this life. Without questioning and without getting tired, I will decorate this blind world with my colors.
KAIROS: When you started graffiti, who was the most popular writer?

SHAME: All I can tell you is that my admiration for Mode 2 was what got me started in graffiti, and I still admire them a lot. In my opinion, Mode 2 paints the best and most beautiful styles and figures. Of course, there's also Flin, who's from Munich and was always there when I was painting trains, and Won and Cowboy 69 are my number one friends. They accepted me as a member of ABC Crewe in 1992 and further expanded my knowledge. They taught me so much about graffiti. My name and career in Germany rose thanks to the knowledge they taught me.

KAIROS: When you started graffiti, did you have problems with your family? Did they help you or were they against you doing graffiti?

SHAME: Of course I had problems with my family! My family grew up in a different generation. I don't know any family that would support me after seeing what I went through. The police raided my house twice; each time, 20 police officers would come at once, turning the whole house upside down, and then they would take me to the police station. In the evenings, I would paint trains illegally. And at 7 in the morning, the police would raid my house. I learned at a very young age that I had to stand tall for the things I did. It was perfectly normal for my family to be against it, but that's youth for you. But my family always stood behind me, always hardcore, and despite everything, they never left me alone.

KAIROS: Are there any writers in the world that you like?

SHAME: Yes, especially Mode 2. I occasionally come across other good works as well.

KAIROS: Which writers from Turkey do you know, and who have you worked with?

SHAME: I did a lot of work with Cowboy 69 and we caused quite a stir with the graffiti we created. FUAT is also a great writer, he lives in Neuperlach, Munich, and I did a few graffiti projects with him. Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to come to Turkey, so I couldn't do any projects there. If I'm invited, I'll come, no problem. I would love to see Istanbul; from what I've heard, they say it's a fantastic city.

KAIROS: Were there any unforgettable events in your career?

SHAME: Of course, one of the reasons I started graffiti was the excitement I experienced, the friends I met through graffiti, the colorful days we spent together, it's an art form where we shared everything... There are so many unforgettable things.

KAIROS: When you look at graffiti, what do you pay attention to?

SHAME: It needs to make me jump and fly away from where I am.

KAIROS: What advice can you give to writers, and how can you help them?

SHAME: Everyone needs to chart their own course. But they need to find their own path. I can help with good caption and spray paint tips, no problem. I've also figured out some things myself, and I'll explain those, of course. Ultimately, a writer who doesn't learn and doesn't make an effort to learn remains backward and unintelligent.

KAIROS: I'll leave the last word to you. What would you like to say to the writers?

SHAME: Colorful lives for everyone. Bring more color to the world.
