We conducted an interview in Ankara about his thoughts on rap and Turkish rap. This interview seems likely to generate a lot of buzz.

Yes friends, now we have before us Ankara's oldest rapper, known to the people of Ankara as Salim Aga, also known as Deli Mc, with his album "Keşke" (I Wish)...

The Turk: Congratulations on the album! The album is titled "I Wish," is there a special reason for that?

Deli mc: The song "Keşke" (I Wish) holds a very special place in my heart because my daughter told me the title. She was young then, and while I was trying to get her to talk, the words just came out of her mouth... Afterwards, I wrote the song, it was very well-received, and it gave its name to the album. And it turned out to be a really nice song. In fact, my daughter also sings "Keşke" in the interlude at the end of side A on the cassette...

The Turk: Actually, if we look at it, we see the old school Deli MC style that has been around for a long time; there hasn't been much change, the established style continues. What's the reason for this?

Deli MC: Yes, there's an established, ongoing trend, but I can't say it won't change in the future; you never know what the future holds. Styles will definitely shift in future albums, but we won't compromise too much of ourselves. When you've been in the industry for a long time, people have a hard time getting used to the innovations you make... For example, people who didn't listen to my old songs are now listening to the new ones, or vice versa. So, if we tried to explain it all at length, we wouldn't be able to finish.

The Turk: Divan-i Rap is actually still going strong, but the old members are no longer on the album. What's the reason for this?

Crazy MC: Everyone's busy with their work; some went abroad, some moved to other cities, some are at university... I wouldn't have even intended to get together if I hadn't met Barış. With Barış's ideas, my ideas, and the ideas of my other friends, we're progressing slowly but surely, without having problems with anyone, without claiming to be number one, and very good things are coming soon... Because Divan-ı Rap and every individual within it thinks only of the group without being selfish... In short, it's all about time...

The Turk: I wonder what the reasons are for the fact that the crazy MCs aren't currently in the Divan-i Rap (a Turkish rap forum)?

Crazy MC: The old trees have become glasses... Anyone who wrongs me will run away from me like a woman with a broken heel; it's been like this until now, and it will be like this from now on...

The Turk: Looking back, very few people know that many of the names who identify themselves as "old timers" in Ankara actually emerged thanks to you, but I see that there's no "thank you, Deli MC" kind of situation. What's your opinion?

Deli mc: You've described it perfectly, what more can I say? You know what happened 2-3 years ago, and many others know too. I never scream and shout that these things are behind us, but if they push my buttons, I'll reveal the evidence. I don't hold grudges against anyone, I only condemn. Why? Because even if they don't respect all the effort and work put in, they should respect me because I'm a senior figure. Very few people in Ankara do that to me… Sometimes I see a lot of guys acting disrespectfully at the famous Karanfil restaurant… Actually, I'm partly to blame for that; I should have done what I'm doing now years ago, I should have retreated to my own hole. But everyone knows who's who… Ankara only needs to learn patience and respect. I've always said this…

I'd like to talk a little bit about the album as well...

The Turk: On the album, I liked "Prisoners Without Handcuffs" the most. Could you tell us a little bit about how the song came about?

Deli mc: I wrote the lyrics for this song here before going to Tanzania... These were the last tracks prepared for the album, and I was going to the place where slavery originated for the recordings... So we made a song like this and shot the music video in the original locations, true to the original... And it turned out to be a really good collaboration with Barış...

The Turk: As the album title suggests, there's a certain longing, like in the songs "I wish," "Goodbye," and "If there's no solution." What's the reason for this?

Deli mc: You can deduce the theme of longing from the song titles, but the lyrics say otherwise. Actually, when you listen carefully, you can decipher the meaning of all the charades that have been, are, and will be played against me and humanity…

The Turk: We watched "Hakuna Matata," which was filmed in Tanzania and aired on many TV channels. Could you please tell us the name of the music video?

Deli mc: Hakuna Matata Swohilce means "No Problem"... While working on this track in the studio, Complex (may he rest in peace) added a free chorus, which we liked, so we turned it into a collaboration, and it became a song that everyone enjoyed... But unfortunately, Complex, who was scheduled to be in Türkiye for concerts at the end of September, lost his life in a traffic accident, and this track remains as a memento for us...

The Turk: When the music video first came out, it seemed to depict and portray negative situations there. But why Tanzania?

Deli mc: All sorts of opportunities and possibilities led us there; actually, it wasn't in my plans at all, it was Barış's idea. We went there, made our album there, and shot music videos that best depicted the place and showed its two true faces. The purpose and the message we wanted to convey to people after going there was this: "Look, there are slaves here, and there are also those who are just having fun..." Life is like black and white...

The Turk: In Ankara, there was a saying that was always repeated: let's unite. Why can't this happen?

Crazy MC: We once gathered Ankara as the Divan-i Rap (Rap Council), and that gathering was the last one I've seen, I haven't seen such a large crowd since... As long as everyone thinks only of themselves, everyone lectures and gives lessons to each other, it will continue like this and there will be no unity.

The Turk: Salim Aga, I wonder if we'll see another music video after the "I Wish" video?

Deli MC: Yes, after Hakuna Matata, we'll be releasing Keşke both online and on TV. Shortly after that, the music video for Kelepçesiz Mahkumlar will be coming. And finally, Azrail Selam Almaz, which we've started preparing here, will be released...

The Turk: Rap is being listened to and made everywhere, including Ankara. We've reached a point where there are more people making it than listening to it. Do you think this will harm Turkish rap?

Delimc: Of course they'll give it away! If everyone produces their own albums, who's going to buy whose? I buy every album that comes out and listen to it once, no more... no lies... but do you think my new friends are buying them? I don't think so... MP3s are a problem in themselves; people are constantly downloading MP3s and don't feel any longing for the artists. I think people should slow down a bit regarding MP3s... And now they'll raise the price of microphones, or the prices of programs... not everyone who gets their hands on a microphone should be doing this job, man... Now let's see if anyone who's offended by this gets offended... let's see the fakes then...

Crazy MC: I'd love to shoot a music video with the whole of Ankara... I'd want everyone to be a vocalist, but that seems impossible... What do you think...?
